Travelling from Nantes to Paris by train

My trip started with my arrival at Nantes station, located opposite the Jardin de Plantes on the Boulevard de Stalingrad. The station is easily accessible using public transport in Nantes.

The station has two halls: one for departures and another one for arrivals. Small and easy to navigate, the station is served by TGV (high-speed), OUIGO, Intercités and TER trains. You can enter the station via an underground passage, but lifts are also available.

On board the TGV train from Nantes to Paris

I hopped on board a classic single-storey TGV INOUI train. It was very easy to find my seat, as each SNCF train ticket includes a carriage number and a seat number.

The seats, in SNCF colours, are comfortable regardless of whether you’re in First (Première) or Second (Seconde) Class. They each have a fold-down table as well as a drinks holder, a footrest and a plug socket. There’s also somewhere to put your rubbish underneath the seat.

There is a dedicated luggage storage space at the front and end of each carriage. Passengers are advised to store large bags in these areas and take hand luggage and small suitcases into the carriage itself. You can store them on the racks above the seats or simply place them underneath your seat.

As I was travelling in the evening, I wasn’t able to marvel at the countryside out of the window. And no luck with the internet either – this particular TGV train didn’t have WiFi access. But that didn’t matter: I was lulled into relaxing by the sounds of the train and a good book.

Arriving at the station in Paris

The TGV train arrived at Paris Montparnasse station. The station is huge! It’s also located, as the name suggests, very close to the famous Montparnasse Tower. This has a shopping centre, perfect for window shopping.

Just a few minutes away from the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral, adventure was calling me! Taking the train to Paris? There’s nothing simpler!

A regular trip from Nantes to Paris

I regularly travel between Nantes and Paris. For this trip, I bought a Première (First Class) ticket for a TGV INOUI train. The train left from Nantes station, which is located in the city centre and arrived at Paris Montparnasse station.

What I enjoyed about the journey

Thanks to high-speed TGV INOUI trains, it’s possible to get from Nantes to Paris in a little over two hours. My experience travelling in Première Class was very enjoyable: the carriage was clean, there was enough legroom, the fold-down table was quite big, and the seats were comfortable.

I also appreciated that there were plug sockets available at each seat – it's very practical as it means you can recharge your devices and arrive in Paris with complete peace of mind. What’s more, there was enough space to store everyone’s luggage, and some gorgeous views of the Breton countryside as we made our way to Paris.

What I didn’t like about the journey

Technically, the train has free WiFi available, but the connection is often very poor so you can’t use it to work during the whole journey. That said, everything else about the trip went very well!
