Tips and tricks from our Trainline team

We love helping our customers find inspiration for their next train journey. Discover some travel stories written based on our employees' experiences.

With Italo, you can get from Naples to Florence in less than 3 hours

For this journey, we took a high-speed Italo 9924 train departing from Napoli Centrale station at 09:20 and arriving in Firenze Santa Maria Novella station at 12:17. The train called at Napoli Afragola, Roma Termini and Roma Tiburtina before getting to Florence.

Departing from Naples

To get to Napoli Centrale, we took a bus from Avellino and stopped at Metropark Napoli Centrale bus station, which is only a few minutes away from the railway station – you just need to follow the 'train station' sign (stazione ferroviaria) and you’ll be there in no time.

As we arrived quite early, we decided to stop by Chalet Ciro and have breakfast with a delicious graffa, a delicacy of Neapolitan patisserie – you can find it on the right of the station’s main entrance, opposite platform 23.

After enjoying our breakfast, we went straight to the platform and went through the security gates to show our etickets before boarding.

On board Italo

We bought two Economy tickets to travel in Italo’s First Class, also known as Italo Prima. Located in the middle of the train, it didn’t take us too long to find the carriage where our seats were.

Italo Prima offers comfortable reclining Frau leather seats which come with footrests, tables, power sockets and plenty of legroom. Free WiFi is also available on board, so you can access ItaloLive portal and enjoy your favourite TV series, films, and music.

A few minutes after boarding, we were served complimentary snacks and drinks. You can choose between a savoury and a sweet snack and a hot and cold drink – I went for some delicious chocolate cookies and pineapple juice.

Arriving in Florence

Getting off at Firenze Santa Maria Novella station, we found ourselves only a few minutes away from Florence’s main attractions, including the stunning Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery.

Overall, I really enjoyed my trip from Naples to Florence with Italo and I really appreciated how friendly the staff were. I highly recommend travelling in Italo Prima Class!
