Wiesbaden train station

Wiesbaden translates into English as ‘meadow baths’, which sums up the idyllic vibe of its thermal baths and parkland perfectly. Wiesbaden train station is located towards the south of the city, near the Herbertanlage gardens. Rather like a fairy-tale castle in its design, with terracotta bricks and a spired clock tower, the station building itself looks similar to a miniature London St Pancras. An important connecting station for the state of Hesse, it is the biggest station in the region after Frankfurt. Many lines run to and from Wiesbaden, ranging from the S-Bahn rapid commuter system that allows voyagers to shoot across the state in no time, and the ICE high-speed trains, to the short-distance local lines. The journey from Frankfurt takes 33 minutes, travellers can zip down from Mainz in just 8 minutes, and direct trains from Limburg an der Lahn take 58 minutes. Several RMV bus routes run from Wiesbaden train station into the city and surrounding areas, and trains to Frankfurt Airport leave every 15 minutes.

Main attractions near Wiesbaden train station

Continuing in the fairy-tale frame of mind, travelling from Wiesbaden train station into the centre, visitors are bound to encounter no end of whimsical palaces and magnificent architecture. It’s hard to miss the imposing but beautiful Kurhaus. Fronted with Roman-style columns, this neoclassical masterpiece was once a luxurious spa house frequented by glitterati from across Europe. Now a fabulous cultural exhibition and conference centre, it is a 25-minute walk from the station. It’s worth a visit, even if only to relax in the beautiful gardens! The Hessisches Staatstheater is similarly lavish, furnished in red and gold, and about 20 minutes on foot from Wiesbaden station. Culture vultures can try to catch an opera or maybe even the ballet.

A 15-minute stroll from the station will bring visitors to Warmer Damm park. Modelled on a typical English landscaped garden, this is the perfect place to relax with a picnic lunch. Travellers can sit by the calm lake, listen to the trickle of the water features, and watch the aquatic wildlife. For quaint cafés serving delicious sweet treats, visitors can wander over to the pedestrianised streets of Wiesbaden centre. Travellers can also pick up delicious local produce at the farmers’ market, which sets up shop in the Marktplatz on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If visitors fancy something more substantial after arriving at the station but are in a hurry, the Moritzstraße, where there is an array of international cuisine, can be reached on foot in roughly 8 minutes.
