Amsterdam Centraal or often referred to by locals as CS opened on 15 October 1889. Replacing the former Amsterdam Willemspoort Station that closed a decade earlier. It is the largest station in Holland with over 250,000 passengers a day passing through the doors. Amsterdam Centraal is also the most visited national heritage site in the country, unsurprising given its beautiful architecture and design. Stepping out from the station visitors find themselves in the heart of the city with fantastic public transport links including trams, buses and metro services.
If your flying in to or out of Amsterdam local trains connect to Schiphol Airport with departures every 10 minutes from 6 am to midnight and the journey taking between 10-15 minutes each way.
If you're visiting the city for the first time, the main tourist office is located at the station where you can pick up a free map, purchase tickets for tours and activities plus any accommodation needs.
