Salou train station

Salou is famed for its golden beaches and has a status as a popular tourist hub. Salou train station is a small but practical building situated in the town centre and just a short stroll away from the sea. The station has two platforms, serving a variety of long-distance national trains, as well as some shorter-distance regional ones. Direct trains from Barcelona and Valencia can take just 1h16mins and 2h13mins respectively, and so visiting from larger cities is quick and easy. Travellers can reach Salou from several other pretty little Catalonian towns too. For example, a trip from Tarragona takes under 20 minutes, while travelling direct from Sitges takes 54 minutes. What’s more, visitors can be at the famous Port Aventura theme park within a flash, because this journey involves just a 2-minute ride from Salou train station.

Main attractions near Salou train station

As one of the key holiday destinations on the Costa Dorada, Salou naturally comes equipped with long, lavish expanses of golden sands. Heading towards the sea from the train station, visitors will reach Salou’s little port and the divide between its two gorgeous beaches in under 10 minutes. At the end of the port is a statue of a fisherman pulling in a net — a monument honouring the town’s fishing community.

On the right, Playa de Ponent is peppered with cafes, while the slightly deeper Playa de Llevant is on the left. Though Salou may not be a cultural hub, there are many intriguing features to be found exploring the wide promenade along the waterfront. Take the Font Lluminosa with its fountains dancing and lighting up in a variety of sequences as an example. In the opposite direction, just 10 minutes away from the station, Parròquia de Santa Maria del Mar stands proudly as Salou’s oldest religious building. The quaint church emerged from Salou’s maritime heritage, and there are some enchanting murals by Catalan artist Lluís Maria Güell inside.

Port Aventura is a short ride from Salou train station and it is not only a theme park, but a water park too. In the vast grounds, every area is themed by country, allowing visitors to travel from China to Mexico and back to the Mediterranean all in one day! For those who’d rather enjoy a good meal, Salou is bursting with fantastic restaurants, especially along the seafront. For some authentic Spanish offerings, hungry arrivals can walk just 5 minutes from Salou train station and into the town centre to explore their options.
