La Rochelle Ville station is perfect to go to the city centre and to begin sightseeing right away. The station is located near the old port, with many places of interest nearby. Its three platforms are served by TGV, Intercities, TER Poitou-Charentes and TER Pays de la Loire, operated by SNCF. Five trains stop in La Rochelle-Ville station per hour. The TGV connects the port town to Paris-Montparnasse in only 3 hours. TER can get to Bordeaux in 2 hours, and to Poitiers in an hour and a half. Public transports (urban buses, taxis) allow you to move into the town. Car location agencies and a self-service car hire are also available. It is worth noting that the station building is itself part of the historical monument of La Rochelle, and deserves to be admired.
