Italo is part of the Italian high speed network, famous around the world for delivering speed with maximum comfort for travellers on-board. 

Italo was created by the NTV group and connects the main Italian cities such as Rome, Milan, Turin, Naples, Bologna, Florence and Venice with trains traveling at a maximum speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).

All Italo trains are equipped with four classes of service; Smart, Comfort, Prima and Club Executive. On board an Italo train you can enjoy free Wi-Fi, electrical sockets at every seat and even cinema carriages for maximum comfort and relaxation whilst traveling.

Italo trains cover the four main arteries of the Italian peninsula: from Turin to Venice, from Turin to Salerno, from Brescia to Naples and from Venice to Rome.

Italo's new connections

New connections Milan to Venice

Italo is increasing its offer on the Milan to Venice route starting from 1 May 2018 with 14 connections a day and new stops in Brescia, Desenzano, Peschiera del Garda, Verona, Vicenza, Padua and Venice Mestre. The route between Milan and Venice will be covered in just 2 hours and 25 minutes and prices will start from € 9.90.

Milan to Rome: a train every 30 min 

Italo runs an incredible 50 trains per day on the Milan to Rome route, with a train running every 30 minutes. New non-stop services from Milan to Rome leave twice a day, at 6 am and 8.35 pm.

New first train departing from Rome at 7:40 am with prices starting from € 15.90.

New connections on Milan to Turin

New train from Milano Centrale at 7.55 am with a total of 18 trains a day between the two cities.

New connections on Bologna to Florence and to Rome

There a six new connections between Florence and Rome with an impressive 47 services per day and 49 daily connections to and from Bologna.




Recently, Italo has expanded its offer with bus connections. Passengers can start their journey by train with Italo and continue the journey with Italobus for the following destinations:

  • From Reggio Emilia AV Mediopadana station to Parma, Modena, Mantua and Cremona;
  • From Milan Rogoredo station to Bergamo, Orio al Serio Airport and Capriate;
  • From Verona Porta Nuova station to Trento, Rovereto and various ski destinations  including Cavalese, Moena, Vigo di Fassa, Pozza di Fassa and Canazei;
  • From the station of Salerno to different cities in Campania, Basilicata, Apulia and Calabria including Picerno, Potenza, Matera, Ferrandina, Lauria and Cosenza.

Until 30 April 2018 the following bus links are also active:

  • From Turin Porta Susa to Aosta and Courmayeur;
  • From Venice Mestre to Treviso and Cortina D'Ampezzo.

Once you have arrived at the final railway station, Italo offers a welcome service at the platform and the Italobus stops are always well signposted near the stations served.

Comfort classes

On all of Italo's high-speed trains, passengers can enjoy four different comfort classes:

  • Smart: the cheapest class with free WiFi, a cinema carriage, leather seats, bar area with hot and cold drinks and snacks.
  • Comfort: spacious armchairs, free WiFi, leather seats. 
  • First: spacious armchairs, fast track, free WiFi, welcome service with sweet and savory snacks and hot and cold drinks, national newspapers and magazines, break area with vending machines for snacks and drinks.
  • Executive Club: spacious armchairs, fast track, free access to the Italo Club Lounges in the main railway stations, dedicated catering (with coffee, bakery products,confectionery and drinks), 9" personal screens, national newspapers and magazines.

Italo trains have three fares:

Flex: allows a wide degree of flexibility before departure, allowing you to change the ticket for free including change the date, time and name of the passengers. If you need to cancel your train ticket, you can do so with a 20% deduction from the fare paid. If you arrive late at departure, the Flex fare also offers 2 hours 'extra time', to access the first available train by contacting Italo staff or the help line on + 39 892020.

Economy: allows you to change the name of the passengers free of charge and change the date and time of departure with a 20% supplement. In case of cancellation of the trip, the ticket can be canceled with a 40% deduction from the fare paid.

Low Cost: with a decidedly advantageous price, it allows you to change the name of the passengers free of charge. It does not allow a refund, but allows you to change the date and time of departure, with a deduction of 50% plus any difference in price, up to 3 days before departure 

Italo tickets' prices vary according to the fare and the selected class (Smart, Comfort, Prima and Club Executive), the number of tickets available and the proximity of the departure date. So plan your trips in advance - tickets are available 3 to 6 months in advance of the departure date.


ItaloPiù is Italo's loyalty card

A truly smart way to travel and save money is ItaloPiù, the loyalty card by Italo. You can activate Italo Più for free, simply by registering on Italo's website.

What are the advantages?

The more you travel, the more points you collect, the more you save. For every euro spent on ticket purchase, you will receive 5 loyalty points. The first threshold to be reached is 2,500 points. On reaching this milestone with Italo Più you will be entitled to a free long distance train ticket (which you can request directly on the Italo website).

Offers and promotions

Italo offers a wide range of offers and promotions that allow you to buy train tickets at favorable prices. Here are the main ones:

Same day return: to go back and forth on the same day with a 50% discount.
Italo Famiglia: allows children under the age of 14 to travel with their families for free (only in a Smart class).
Italo Senior: allows people over the age of 60 to travel with a 40% discount on the Flex fare (in the Prima class).
 Italo Special 50%: to travel on Tuesday or Wednesday between 10:00 and 14:30 with a 50% discount on the Flex fare.
 Italo Special Saturday: to travel on Saturday with a 50% discount on the Flex fare.
 Vado and Torno: allows you to buy a round-trip ticket in a single solution, to travel with a 10% discount, even if you are traveling on different days (excluding Friday and Sunday).

On board services

Travelling with Children

Children under 36 months travel free on all Italo trains if they don't occupy a seat. In the case, however, that an adult travels with more than one child under 36 months, the payment of the seat is mandatory. Children between the age of 2 and 15 years travel with a ticket discounted by 50% on the Flex fare. 

Travelling with Pets

Small pets (under 10 kg) are allowed for free on board all Italo trains as long as they are kept in pets containers. Dogs over 10 kg are allowed on board only if kept on a leash and equipped with a muzzle, and upon payment of a supplement of  50.


WiFi on-board Italo trains

All Italo trains have free on board WiFi.

Taking a bycicle

Folding bicycles are allowed on all Italo trains as long as they are stored in the luggage area. Traditional bikes, on the other hand, are allowed on all Italo trains as long as they are disassembled and inserted in special bags (with max dimensions 80 cm x 110 cm x 40 cm).


Luggage transport is free on all Italo trains. Small bags and backpacks can be stored under the armchairs, while the overhead lockers can accommodate medium and large sized luggage. If you travel in Smart class, remember that your luggage can not be larger than 75 cm x 53 cm x 30 cm.


Bistro service

All Italo trains are equipped with a restaurant car where you can buy drinks, snacks and sandwiches.
